Toronto to Banff

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

We got up at silly o’clock this morning to have breakfast before our transfer back to Toronto. Breakfast was excellent, and the Fallsview Restaurant certainly lives up to its name with our table overlooking both the American and Canadian falls.

Our transfer was uneventful with no traffic, and we arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport Terminal 1 Domestic (Try saying that quickly after a few) in plenty of time. My parents were wary of the automatic check-in terminals, but this was soon dealt with and we checked our bags.

At this point I must wax lyrical about how amazing Toronto T1 is. The building is large, airy, clean and uncrowded. Routes around the airport are clearly labelled. Baggage check-in is swift, security is efficient. The gates are clearly marked with ample, comfortable seating. Lighting is excellent, and the all-pervading placement of decent speakers means that every announcement was easily heard.

After the lunch, it was off up Yonge Street (Pronounced “young”, and apparently the longest street in the world) to see what we could find. The answer was nothing much, although I did pop into the Apple Store.

A walk later, and we’re back at the Delta Chelsea Hotel for a brief rest before we start contemplating our dinner. My father and I went out to see if we could find another US to UK power adapter (no) and to rustle up some birthday cards for my mother, an interesting experience since they were all made out to “mom”.

A Day In Toronto: Before Lunch

Tomato ketchup with tomatoes. Makes sense I suppose.

Tomato ketchup with tomatoes. Makes sense I suppose.

After landing yesterday and a brief journey to our hotel, we quickly had some food and collapsed after spending 19 hours travelling.

Today, it’s Toronto.

The CN Tower was awesome (Sorry, no photos yet. They’re all on my good camera) with a glass floor looking straight down.

Lunch at Shopsy’s Deli was rather good, and Steam Whistle comes highly recommended by the three people allowed to drink. The WiFi was also declared excellent, allowing me to upload this blog.
