The British love complaining - I’m a big fan of it. If I can have a good moan about something then I usually will. However, this whole Russel Brand/Jonathan Ross thing has been taken too far.
It originally had a handful of complaints, was apologised for, admitted to have been childish and out of order and should have been finished with; but this is Britain, and we have tabloids who love this kind of thing. Cue some media frenzy.
I’ll admit I personally didn’t find the comments amusing and think they were unnecessary and should have been apologised for. I started to worry that perhaps this was being taken too far around the 10,000 complaints mark. By the time the Prime Minister had voiced his opinion I knew we were doomed. Brand and Ross were suspended, Radio 2’s controller resigned, every man and his dog within the BBC has apologised, Ross apologised, Brand apologised, Baillie released a statement, Brand resigned, Ross is now suspended for 12 weeks without pay, the BBC apologised again, OFCOM want an investigation, the BBC have an ongoing investigation, at least two people have contacted the police saying that they have been verbally abused in a similar manner and are obviously entitled to seventeen quintillion pounds compensation.
Perhaps next on the agenda we can have enormous rants at the “gangsta” rappers who keep droning on about how they’re “niggaz” who’ve got all their “hoez” and “moniez” and “bitchez” and “gunz”, sometimes all at the same time, and how they’re going to merrily shoot any “cracka” who gets into their “hood”.
Get a fucking grip people.
