Woah, dots!

You may have noticed that individual articles and pages on my site have gained some wierd looking images, like the following:

QR Code

Curious? Read on.

These are known as QR Codes, and are designed to let your mobile phone ‘read’ information from web pages, printed material, adverts etc and act on it by calling somebody, sending a text, or even just showing a message. To use them, you need a camera phone (So most of you are fine already) and a reader. If your phone doesn’t have one (Most don’t outside Japan), open up its browser and head to http://reader.kaywa.com and see if there’s one available. Chances are there will be.

QR codes started in Japan, and seem to have taken off for things like directing people to mobile sites or using text responses. They’re really sensitive as well, if you have a decent phone the chances are you can just wave it over the screen and it’ll read the message.

These should be used more, and as such every article on my site now has one to help raise interest. You’ll probably see more of these starting to appear around the world, so be ready with a reader!

Update: All the QR codes have been removed from individual articles now, due to various incompatibility problems between the plugin and my webserver.

The rain on spain falls mainly on the ground. I’ve been running around my house for a week with a scanner from work looking for something with a secret message. I should have been looking on the internets, apparently.

Thank you for fulfilling my desire to use the scanner inappropriately!
