London 2012’s logo looks like *what*?
Pretty, huh? This is the official logo of the 2012 Olympic games, to be held in London. It comes in a variety of colours, and is designed to be animated in all manner of wierd and wonderful ways. The cost? A phenomenal £400,000 to the Wolff Olins agency, who apparently specialise in things like this. There’s one major problem though, which I will illustrate with the aid of an (Admittedly virtual) marker pen.
Yes, that’s the real logo underneath. Now go look at the the one without my scrawlings.
So, for £400,000 of taxpayer’s money we get some multicoloured spiky-haired woman performing sexual favours on someone no doubt a member of the logo selection committee, as it’s the only way I can see this actually happening. I now, for your enjoyment, present what I feel to be the best two of the logos sent to the BBC’s create-your-own-logo discussion. I must stress these aren’t professionally designed, and are done by a couple of blokes on their lunch breaks.
Richard Voysey’s contribution - Not my favourite (The 2012 seems to remove the London too much, but a brilliant idea which looks good, and with a minor tweak would be instantly recognisable.
This one from James Wren is my favourite, perhaps with the somewhat tongue-in-cheek tagline removed. Simple, elegant, clean, recognisable. Seriously, send this guy the money and sod Wolff Olins.
